Greetings and happy (belated) New Year to all the members and friends of the Virginia ICRI Chapter reading this. I write this to you as the Chapter’s Past President. The Chapter is now in the good hands of Kevin Higgins of Euclid Chemical as President. I wanted to take a moment to briefly recap 2021 for the Virginia Chapter and look forward to our plans for 2022.
First, many thanks to the Chapter sponsors that help support the activities throughout each year. For 2021, we were fortunate to have eight companies as Chapter sponsors.
Thanks to those Board members whose terms ended in 2021: Jon Hunger, Keith Simpson, and Jamison Wilson. Their contributions, hard work, and leadership over the past several years are appreciated and they will be missed. New Chapter Board members for 2022 are Randy Curtiss, Linwood (LA) Green, and Chris Upperman. Please join me in welcoming these three who agreed to step up and serve our chapter.
The 2021 highlights of the Virginia Chapter included the June 1 Demo Day at the Whitlock Brothers facility in Toana, Virginia. The Demo Day was the first in-person Chapter event in over a year and we had a great turnout. It was welcoming to see the Chapter return to something more closely resembling pre-COVID times and it was clear that everybody was ready to meet in-person again and return to learning from each other.
The fall Symposium & Golf Outing was held at Colonial Heritage Golf Club in Williamsburg, VA on September 30 with many speakers sharing their experience on the theme of Balcony Repair. After the Symposium, participants enjoyed a round of golf that featured some adjustments made to enhance the play of the golfers that day.
Also in 2021, a scholarship was established in memory of Neil Savitch who was a longtime Chapter Board member, supporter, colleague, and friend. The scholarship in Neil’s name exists in large part because of the efforts of Mark Stover along with others. Neil was recognized at the fall Symposium and the Chapter plans to continue to recognize Neil at an annual event for the foreseeable future.
On October 28, 2021 we held another Demo Day, this time at the Richmond Primoid warehouse/yard in Richmond, Virginia. That was the second time that Primoid hosted a Demo Day and it was also well-attended with lots of good in-person, hands-on learning. We were also treated to refreshments from the mobile tasting room (actually truck) from RichBrau Brewing at the fall Demo Day.
The Board of Directors has begun making plans for 2022 including a golf only event on April 28, 2022 at The Club at Viniterra which is an 18-hole champion course designed by Rees Jones located outside Richmond, VA in New Kent. This will be the first golf only event of the Chapter in many years. Look for registration information soon via email and on our website.
Plans are being made for a summer baseball game social outing at a TBD date at the Fredericksburg Nationals. June and July dates will likely be considered first when the FredNats schedule is released.
The annual fall Symposium is planned for the morning of September 15, 2022 at Colonial Heritage in Williamsburg, Virginia. Topics and overall symposium theme discussions are ongoing. Please share any ideas on presentations with Kevin Higgins or another current Board member.
The 2022 Demo Day is planned for October 20, 2022 at the Richmond Primoid warehouse/yard in Richmond, Virginia. This should be another great opportunity for hands-on learning.
A scholarship presentation is planned for the November timeframe to current college students with an interest in the concrete repair industry.
As you can see, there will be many opportunities to learn and network in Virginia with your peers in the concrete repair industry. I ask that each of you reading this invite someone to join ICRI and the Virginia Chapter and/or to attend at least one of our events in 2022.
I look forward to seeing everyone at an ICRI Virginia Chapter event in 2022.
